Online therapy
I offer counselling and psychotherapy by video to adults anywhere in the UK, in English or Dutch. Online sessions are the same length, the same price and the same work as sessions in the room in Beeston. The difference is that you can be at home.
Does online therapy work as well?
For most people, yes. What matters is the relationship and the work, and both come through a screen better than people expect. Some clients tell me they say more at home than they would in a strange room.
It suits some situations especially well: if you live far from Beeston, if you are one of the few Dutch speakers in your town, if travelling to an appointment would eat an afternoon, or if leaving the house is part of what you are anxious about. It suits some people less well, and I will be honest with you if I think that is you.

What do I need?
- A laptop, tablet or phone with a camera, and a reasonably steady internet connection. A laptop on a table works better than a phone in your hand.
- A room where you won't be overheard or interrupted for the hour. A car parked somewhere quiet counts, and so does a bedroom with the door shut.
- Headphones, if you share your home. They keep my half of the conversation private.
- Ten minutes before the session to arrive, and ten afterwards before you rejoin the day. This matters more online, where the kitchen is right there.
How does a session run?
I send you a link before we start. You click it at our agreed time; there is nothing to install and no account to create. We talk for 50 minutes, as we would in the room. At the end, I close the call and you have your space back.
If the connection drops, I will wait two minutes and then phone you on the number you gave me, and we carry on by phone if the video won't come back. It happens rarely, and we make a plan for it at the start so it isn't stressful when it does.
Is it private?
Yes. I use a video platform built for confidential conversations, with encrypted calls, and I take the session from a private room with the door closed, the same as I would in person. Nothing is recorded. At your end, privacy is mostly about the room you choose and who is in the house; we can think that through together if it's difficult.
How do I make the most of it?
Treat the session as you would an appointment you had travelled to. Sit somewhere you can be upright and comfortable for an hour, with the screen at eye level so we can see each other properly. Close the other tabs, silence the phone, and tell the people you live with that you are not to be disturbed. If you can, keep the same room and the same time each week; the sameness does some of the work of making the space feel safe. Afterwards, give yourself a few minutes before the rest of the day. A short walk, a cup of tea, a moment at the window. It is a small thing that makes a large difference to how the session settles.
Who can I work with online?
Adults living in the UK. My insurance covers clients living in the UK, so I can't work with you if you live abroad, even if you are British or Dutch. If you are on a long trip, ask me; short absences are usually fine.
What happens next?
My private practice opens in 2027, and you can join the waitlist now. When a place comes up, we start with a free 20-minute discovery call, by video or phone, so you get a feel for it before deciding anything. If we go ahead, we set a regular weekly time.

Common questions
Can I switch between online and in person?
Yes, if you are within reach of Beeston. Some people come in person most weeks and go online when life gets in the way.
What if I get upset and then have to go straight back to my family?
We plan for it. Building ten quiet minutes in after a session, and a short walk if you can, makes a real difference. We can also end sessions in a way that helps you land.
Do you offer therapy by phone, without video?
No. Phone loses the faces, which matter in this work, so sessions are in person or by video. The free discovery call can be by phone if you prefer.
Can we do online sessions in Dutch?
Yes. Dutch speakers are spread across the whole country, so online is often the practical choice. Therapy in Dutch.
In person in Beeston, Nottingham. Online across the UK.
