If something in your life keeps hurting, repeating, or refusing to make sense, talking it through with someone outside it can help. Counselling and psychotherapy are that conversation, with training behind it. I offer a warm, non-judgmental space where we can explore what's happening for you and begin to work out what change might look like.
"Nothing changes if nothing changes." Courtney C. Stevens
What can I help with?
I work with adults, one to one, on the things that make life feel heavier than it should: anxiety that never switches off, a difficult relationship with food or your body, relationships that keep hitting the same wall, loss, low mood, or the sense that you are going through the motions. You don't need a diagnosis or a neat explanation to get in touch. Not being sure what's wrong is a good place to start.
- Eating difficultiesWhen food, eating or your body have become a daily struggle.
- AnxietyWorry, panic, and the feeling of never quite being able to settle.
- RelationshipsThe same patterns, arguments or distances, again and again.
- Therapy in DutchTherapie in je eigen taal, in Beeston of online in het hele VK.
What is therapy with me like?
Counselling and psychotherapy with me are, mostly, a conversation that has room in it. Room to say the thing you haven't said out loud, to be uncertain, to change your mind. I listen, ask questions, and notice things with you. I rarely give advice.
I work integratively and relationally, drawing on developmental and relational theory to meet you where you are. In practice, that means paying close attention to how your early experiences and relationships continue to shape your life today, including what unfolds between us in the room. Noticing those patterns as they show up, in the here and now, is often where the most meaningful work happens.
My training is in transactional analysis, a way of understanding the patterns we learn early and carry into adult life, and how we can change them once we can see them. You can read more about how I work and who I am on the About page.
Therapy in English or Dutch
I grew up in the Netherlands and Belgium and have lived in the UK for years, so we can work entirely in Dutch, entirely in English, or drift between the two, whichever feels most like you. If you have ever tried to describe something painful in your second language and felt it come out flat, you will know why this matters. There is more on the therapy in Dutch page, in both languages.
Where I see clients in and around Nottingham
In person at Highfields Therapy, my private practice in Beeston, Nottingham (NG9 2ES), which is easy to reach by tram, train and bus from across the city, with free parking on the street. It is a short trip from Chilwell, Attenborough, Bramcote, Stapleford, Wollaton, Lenton and West Bridgford. Or online by video from anywhere in the UK, which works well if you are further away, short on time, or more comfortable at home. The online therapy page explains how that works and what you need.
What happens next?
Join the waitlist with your email address; you confirm it from the email you receive. When a place comes up in 2027, I will get in touch to arrange a free 20-minute discovery call, by phone or video, so we can talk about what's bringing you to therapy and whether working together feels right. Joining the waitlist commits you to nothing, and you can come off it at any time. If we go ahead, we agree a regular weekly time. Sessions last 50 minutes.
Your first full session is a longer look at what has brought you here, what you would like to be different, and how we might work. It is also a chance to see how it feels to talk with me. If you have had therapy before, we can talk about what helped and what didn't. If you haven't, there is nothing to prepare and nothing you can get wrong.
Sessions cost £80 for 50 minutes, in person or online, and the discovery call is free. If you have other questions, ask me by email. The questions page covers what most people want to know before they get in touch.
A few honest things
I am a psychotherapeutic counsellor. I am also a trainee psychotherapist, studying for an MSc in Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy, and I work under regular clinical supervision. I offer counselling now and psychotherapy as my training deepens. I am not a crisis or medical service. If you are in immediate danger or cannot keep yourself safe, please use the numbers at the foot of this page, or go to your GP or nearest A&E.
Common questions
Do I need to know what's wrong before I get in touch?
No. "I don't feel right and I can't explain it" is enough. Working out what's going on is part of what we do together.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on you and what you bring. Some people come for a few months around one thing; others find the work goes deeper and want longer. We review it together, and you can stop whenever you choose.
Is what I say confidential?
Yes, with a few limits that the law and professional ethics set, which I explain before we start. I discuss my work in supervision, as every therapist should, without identifying you.
